Abstract

The 2-D vector magnetometer, measuring simultaneously and independently the two planar components of the magnetic field, contains a current source (1) in the mode of a direct current generator and a semiconductor substrate (2) with p-type impurity conductivity. On one side of it is embedded a ring (3) of the same semiconductor with n-type conductivity and in the shape of a symmetrical Maltese cross. In the central region of the n-type ring (3) there is a square ohmic contact (4). At distances and symmetrically with respect to its four sides, one inner rectangular ohmic contact (5), (6), (7) and (8), as well as one outer rectangular ohmic contact (9), (10), (11) and (12) are sequentially located. Separately, contacts (5), (6), (7) and (8) and respectively (9), (10), (11) and (12) are the same as their lengths are equal to the side of the square (4). The width of the outer contacts (9), (10), (11) and (12) is at least twice smaller than that of the inner ones (5), (6), (7) and (8). The sum of the areas of the contacts (5), (6), (7) and (8) is equal to the area of the central one (4). The inner contacts (5), (6), (7) and (8) are electrically connected and are connected to the central one (4) through the current source (1). The measured magnetic field (13) is in the plane of the substrate (2) and has an arbitrary orientation. The pairs of outer contacts (9) and (11), and respectively (10) and (12), opposite to the square one (4) are the outputs (14) and (15) for the two orthogonal planar components of the magnetic field (13).
