The Clean Hydrogen Partnership has launched their €184.5M Powering the Future Call to boost the hydrogen value chain across Europe. The 2025 Call for Proposals under the Horizon Europe programme is now open. Clean Hydrogen is hosting an information day in Brussels on 22 January and for more information visit the dedicated call pages on the Clean Hydrogen Partnership website

All applications must be submitted via the EU’s Funding and Tenders portal before the deadline of 23 April 2025. The UK is associated to Horizon Europe since 1st January 2024 and UK partners are eligible to lead and take part in proposals for this Clean Hydrogen Partnership call.

The Clean Hydrogen Partnership will fund projects to achieve cost-effective renewable hydrogen production, develop cost-effective hydrogen storage solutions or deliver reliable, scalable fuel cell systems for heavy-duty vehicles and maritime applications.

With a total budget of €184.5 million, this call aims to accelerate innovation across critical areas of the hydrogen value chain and reflects continued commitment towards advancing clean hydrogen technologies for climate neutrality and competitiveness in Europe. The call is addressing key topics from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership Strategic Research Agenda with funding allocated as follows:

  • €40M for Renewable Hydrogen Production
  • €16M for Hydrogen Storage and Distribution
  • €17M for Transport Applications
  • €5M for Heat and Power
  • €6.5M for Cross-Cutting Activities
  • €80M for Hydrogen Valleys

The 2025 Call for Proposals was opened by Valerie Bouillon-Delporte, Executive Director of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership: “The 2025 call reflects our continued efforts to invest in research and innovation for a competitive clean hydrogen value chain in Europe. We are looking at expanding hydrogen’s applications in key sectors, enhancing fuel cell technologies and hydrogen electrolysis efficiency, while tackling major market challenges, such as reducing hydrogen’s production costs, improving material durability and safety, and strengthening Europe’s hydrogen infrastructure. Finally, hydrogen valleys will again be an important part of the call, in a drive to support both large and small-scale Hydrogen ecosystems integrating production, distribution, and use.”.

The 19 call topics are:

This 2025 call allocates €80 million from the RePowerEU Plan for the continued development of Hydrogen Valleys across Europe. This RePowerEU funding will be used to support at least one large-scale Hydrogen Valley and one small-scale Hydrogen Valley from the Call 2025 ranking list will be selected for funding provided they meet the required thresholds, and additional Hydrogen Valleys proposals from the Call 2025 ranking list will be further selected for funding in order to optimise the use of this available budget.
